Proclaim: A Global Conference for Preachers of Redemptive History is for pastors and Christian leaders worldwide. This year marks the fourth annual Global Conference. Intensive courses and seminars will increase our proficiency in the Bible regarding the history of redemption. Under this year’s theme, “The Scriptures Were Opened” (Luke 24:32), we will delve into the enigmatic genealogy of Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew.
God’s covenant is the driving force behind redemptive history flowing toward its apex, Jesus Christ, and this is vivid in the Matthean genealogy of Jesus Christ. For instance, the first 14 generations demonstrate God’s tearful work in establishing a kingdom of Israel from a single patriarch, Abraham. Faithfully fulfilling the covenant of the torch with Abraham, God pushes forward redemptive history to Davidic Covenant, in which God promises an eternal throne—the unquenchable lamp—to David, a type of Jesus Christ our eternal King.
Although the covenanted people show unfaithfulness and betrayal to God in this process, God continues to embrace them until His promises are ultimately fulfilled. We will probe through the dark periods of slavery in Egypt, Judges’ period, and the gloomy years of David’s flight from Saul, discovering in each period the vestige of God’s labor of love toward its dramatic fruition—King David and a theocratic kingdom on earth.
Redemptive studies of these 14 generations will open our eyes to witness the same God faithfully working in our own lives to establish us as His unquenchable lamp of the covenant (Prov 20:27).
“God is greater than all (John 10:29) and sovereign over heaven and earth (Acts 4:24; Rev 6:10). It is because God “so loved” this world that He, who is truly immeasurably great (1 Cor 16:25), sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to save the sinners (John 3:16). This great love of God is condensed into the genealogy of Jesus Christ and sealed into each of the names (Matt 1).”
